OCZ DDR3 PC3-12800 Intel XMP 4GB Review

OCZ low-voltage DDR3 kits are designed specifically for the Intel® P55 Chipset and subsequent Intel® Core™ i7, i5, and i3 (Socket 1156) processors. Configured for dual channel mode, these ultra-compatible 4GB kits ensure optimal performance with an ideal combination of low power requirements at 1600MHz.

Developed for cost-conscious enthusiasts and gamers, these new OCZ modules were engineered with the same affordability and performance standards as the new Lynnfield platform. By using sophisticated IC screening methods and qualifying on a variety of motherboards, OCZ low-voltage kits are the perfect complement for the P55 Chipset and choice CPU to deliver the maximum stability. Together, P55 and OCZ memory are the premium option for the midrange desktops.

Designed to significantly increase performance levels of the entire platform, these modules feature Intel Extreme Memory Profiles (XMP), a proprietary extension of SPD (Serial Presence Detect) settings that act as an integrated “plug and play” overclocking tool. The new Extreme Memory Profile options on the new OCZ DDR3 modules allow the end user to select ultimate performance through a framework of predefined and validated optimizations of individual settings without the hassle of manually adjusting each parameter, so the timings, voltage, and speed boot automatically for maximum performance.

Each kit features a second enthusiast profile to enable the modules to run at an even more aggressive balance of speed and timings.

OCZ’s Dual Channel kits are 100% hand-tested for quality assurance and compatibility and feature propriety XTC (Xtreme Thermal Convection) heatspreaders for the most effective heat dissipation. Furthermore, each OCZ memory module is backed by the industry leading OCZ Lifetime Warranty and technical support for unparalleled peace of mind.

"We see that the OCZ XMP Edition modules run very closely with the G.Skill modules, although the G.Skill sticks simply cannot match the OCZ. The OCZ modules really start to stretch their legs when more highly overclocked, so if you have the motherboard to push them, you can very comfortably run these modules well above their rather speed. Running 1936MHz is nothing to scoff at. These sticks also proved to be very easy to overclock, and not touchy to voltage tweaks at all, which is always a blessing when trying to find the limits of your memory and overclock settings. OCZ has done a great job with these modules, showcasing sharp aesthetics, quality construction, and very good performance. If you're looking to jump on the LGA1156 Core i5/i7 bandwagon and want some memory modules that have convenience built right in, OCZ XMP Edition DDR3-1600 modules are a great option."

"Featuring two XMP profiles, this particular OCZ dual channel kit is specifically tailored for Intel's P55 platform. At 1600 MHz, the modules ship with decently high clocks along with 8-8-8-24 timings. The second XMP profile let's you ramp up the clocks up to 1800 MHz. Overall, OCZ's latest dual channel memory kit works just as advertised. The XMP profiles offer great performance straight out of the box without having to spend hours upon hours tweaking them. They may not be the cheapest, nor the best overclockers, but if you want memory that just works, it's certainly worth a second look. Add to the mix OCZ's lifetime warranty and excellent customer support and you have a solid product on your hands."

"The modules feature not one, but two XMP profiles, so you can boost performance with just a few quick changes in the BIOS. By using the profiles, you don't have to worry about playing with the settings in the BIOS and you can be assured of a system that will have its performance optimized. The black XTC (Xtreme Thermal Convection) heat spreaders not only look good and will complement just about every system out there they also do the job of keeping the modules cool. This set of OCZ modules allowed me to go as tight as 7-7-7 at 1622MHz. There are kits with more overhead available for the enthusiast for a lower price, but when it comes down to no fuss overclocking of the memory, the XMP profiles prove beneficial and offer an increase in performance without the headaches. Couple that with OCZ's lifetime warranty and legendary support, and you have a set of modules that you can be sure will work as they are intended."
